Key Product Advantages
Wide Temperature NMC Lithium Ion Battery Pack, -40°C to 85°C Discharge, Built to Your OEM Spec
This wide temp lithium ion battery pack is made for equipment that has to start, run and report its own status in places where ordinary lithium packs lose power or shut down. It uses NMC (NCM) lithium ion battery cells in a 25.2V nominal platform and is specified for discharge from -40°C to 85°C. Voltage and capacity are configurable, from 18V-class designs up to 48V-class systems, and from 2Ah to 29Ah.
Every pack is an OEM project. Your product defines the case, the connector, the BMS behaviour and the communication protocol, and Tianchi builds the custom lithium ion battery pack around those decisions. The result is a pack that fits your enclosure and behaves the way your controller expects, at both temperature extremes.
Key advantages (bullets)
- Usable power from -40°C to 85°C. The pack is designed for cold starts and hot enclosures where a standard lithium ion pack would need heavy current limits or an external heater.
- A 24V-class bus that suits mobile machines. A 25.2V nominal pack powers motor drives, compute modules and sensor payloads directly; 48V-class versions carry the same power at lower current.
- Built around your device. Case geometry, sealing, connector and BMS are drawn from your product requirements, not from a catalogue.
- Temperature-aware protection. Discharge limits and derating curves follow cell temperature, so behaviour in the field is predictable instead of abrupt.
- Ready for current spikes. Low-resistance interconnects and tuned protection thresholds help the pack ride out actuator and tool surges without resetting your controller.
- A smart lithium ion battery pack option. Voltage, current, temperature, SOC and fault data can be sent to your gateway or service tool over a protocol you define.

NMC chemistry: why it suits wide temperature work
NMC stands for nickel manganese cobalt, and NCM battery is simply the same chemistry with the letters in a different order. Cells of this type combine high energy density with strong pulse capability, which is why they are common in robots, tools and other portable equipment where weight and volume are fixed.
A typical NMC cell voltage is about 3.6V nominal and 4.2V fully charged. Seven cells in series give the 25.2V nominal and 29.4V charge voltage used in this pack. Five cells in series give an 18V-class pack.
NMC vs LFP: lithium iron phosphate is a strong choice for long service life and high thermal tolerance, but it generally gives lower energy density and gives up more power in deep cold. When the target is compact size plus reliable discharge at -40°C, NMC is usually the better starting point. Both chemistries still depend on a BMS that knows the cell temperature.
How the pack behaves from -40°C to 85°C
A wide temperature rating is a system result, not a label on the cell. In the cold, internal resistance climbs and voltage sags under load. In the heat, ageing speeds up and protection limits must be applied consistently. These effects meet the inrush current of a DC/DC converter or the stall current of a motor, so we design the pack and the host device together.
Cold start: cell selection, low-resistance welds and temperature-dependent BMS limits are set so the controller sees enough voltage at the first load step and does not fall into a reset loop.
Hot enclosures: near motors, under sun load or in sealed housings, thermal sensing and controlled derating manage stress and avoid sudden shutdown.
Pulse loads: pack impedance, wiring and protection response decide whether the device stays stable during repeated bursts.
Fleet visibility: the BMS separates "output limited by temperature" from a real fault, so service teams do not chase problems that are not there.

Voltage options: 18V-class, 24V-class and up to 48V-class
-
The standard 24V lithium ion battery pack platform in this range is 25.2V nominal with a 29.4V charge voltage. It is the natural choice for most mobile robots and battery-powered instruments.
Programs that follow a power-tool ecosystem can move to an 18V-class pack by changing the series count, BMS settings and charger. See our dedicated 18V lithium ion battery for extreme low temperature page for that format, or the 36V NMC wide temperature battery for higher-voltage drives. Systems that need to cut current further can use a 48V-class design, sized to your wiring limits and motor driver.
Cell formats and matching
Packs in this range are commonly built from cylindrical cells. An 18650 lithium ion battery cell suits most compact designs, and a 21700 lithium ion battery cell is worth considering when the project needs more capacity per cell or lower cell count. Final format is chosen from your current demand, runtime and mechanical space.
Whatever the format, performance depends on matching. We group lithium ion battery cells by capacity, voltage and internal resistance before assembly, so weaker cells do not drag down a series string during pulse discharge or cold operation.
BMS and communication protocol
A battery management system for lithium ion battery packs in harsh climates has to do more than switch off at limits. In this pack it is specified together with you:
Discharge current limits tied to cell temperature, plus a defined recovery rule after over- or under-temperature events
Overcurrent, short-circuit, over-voltage and under-voltage protection with response times set against your motor controller
Cell balancing method and temperature sensor placement
SOC and SOH estimation that stays usable in the cold, where voltage alone is unreliable
RS485, CAN or UART output with register maps, warning-versus-fault separation and event logs for root-cause analysis

How we build the pack: production process
- Requirement review. We confirm load profile, duty cycle, temperature exposure, enclosure limits and communication needs before drawing the pack.
- Cell inspection and grading. Incoming cells are checked and sorted by capacity, voltage and internal resistance.
- Assembly. Cells are held in insulated brackets and joined with welded nickel strips or busbars sized for the peak current.
- BMS and sensor installation. The protection board, temperature sensors, harness and connector are fitted as specified.
- Enclosure and sealing. The pack is closed in your customer-designed case with the agreed sealing and mounting features.
- Electrical testing. Capacity, voltage, protection thresholds and communication output are checked on every pack.
- Temperature validation. Sample packs are tested against the agreed low- and high-temperature discharge points for the project.
- Labelling and traceability. Serial numbers and revision records let you trace each pack to its build batch.
FAQ section
1) What does -40°C to 85°C mean for this battery?
It is the specified discharge temperature range. The power available at a given temperature depends on the current limits and derating curve agreed for your project, which we set against your load profile and your device's undervoltage tolerance.
2) Are NMC and NCM batteries the same?
Yes. Both names describe nickel manganese cobalt oxide cathode chemistry. NMC lists the metals in one order and NCM in another.
3) NMC or LFP: which is better for extreme temperatures?
It depends on the priority. NMC generally offers higher energy density and stronger low-temperature discharge, which suits compact equipment. LFP offers long life and good heat tolerance but usually with lower energy density. Tell us your size, weight and temperature targets and we will advise on the better fit.
4) Can you make a 24V or 48V custom lithium ion battery pack?
Yes. The standard platform is 25.2V nominal, and we can design other series counts up to 48V-class to match your motor driver, wiring and charger. For 18V-class packs, see our dedicated 18V page linked above.
5) Do you build packs with 18650 or 21700 cells?
Both formats are possible. We select the cell based on current demand, runtime and available space, and we confirm the choice with you before the design is frozen.
6) How do you prevent controller resets during a cold start under load?
We line up pack impedance, wiring resistance and BMS discharge limits with your inrush and transient profile, and we coordinate undervoltage thresholds with your DC/DC and motor controller to avoid on-off cycling.
7) Can the BMS report data over RS485 or CAN?
Yes. The communication protocol is designed with you and can include RS485, CAN or UART registers, warnings and faults, event logs and version-controlled messages for your gateway or service tools.
Short call to action (OEM / wholesale inquiry)
Share your target voltage (18V-class, 25.2V nominal, or up to 48V max), load profile (continuous/peak current and duty cycle), runtime target (Ah/Wh), operating temperature exposure, enclosure constraints, connector requirements, and required communications (e.g., RS485). We will propose a wide temperature battery pack configuration and an integration plan suitable for industrial robotics, outdoor equipment, and professional tool programs.
